How to Choose the Right Paint Color
There is the entire theory about how colors influence your life and your mood. It is not only in the psychology that people pay attention to the influence of colors, but people have been doing so from the ancient days. We live and love by colors and that is why coloring your living space is a very important aspect of the interior design. Thinking this trough is fun, just as using those colors and painting walls. However, it is not a decision set in stone, since you can always paint over those walls. Here is how you can make the right choice and avoid repainting.
Set the Mood
Remember some of the best moments of your life, a favorite photo, a vacation or a painting. Think about the colors that it includes and try to find them on the color chart. In that way you will be able to relive the mood that you want just by the effect of the colors around you. There are smartphone apps today that will help you with that. Some of them allow you to take a photo and then it extracts the color pattern of that photo. It is a very good way to make your choice of at least three colors. You don’t have to use them all, but you can use some of them while making some details with others.
Consider the Furniture
It would be completely impractical to choose the colors without taking your furniture into consideration. The furniture itself has its own colors, so putting some more on the wall would make a real mess. It will just be too much and it will make your room an environment in which it is hard to relax. However, if you have colorful furniture and a lot of detail, you don’t have to give up on the colors you have chosen, but you can simply use muted shades of it and keep it low and neutral. In that way, you have your color and your fun color pattern of the furniture. On the other hand, a natural color furniture with no excessive or vivid color can withstand bold wall colors quite well.
Don’t Follow Trends
Trends change all the time. That is for sure and it is not just that they change all the time, it is that they change frequently. In just a couple of months, the wall color or the ornament you have chosen for your room will be updated and that means that it will look like something from the past. This is to be avoided, as it looks really bad. It is best to use classic colors and patterns or to make something on your own so that it doesn’t seem like the old news in just a few months.
Consider the Light
Different light will make your color look different. One of the main distinctions between the natural light and the light bulbs is that natural light allows the color to look ‘itself’, while the artificial light may alter the shade. Regular light bulbs are mostly yellowish and that color alters the shade of your walls. Imagine blue walls. Blue is a cold color that has some really nice and interesting soothing properties. Yellow light will ruin that effect as it will give it greenish glow that you definitely want to avoid. Also, halogen lights with red and orange walls will make them dull, probably. The point being, if you choose the colors of your walls without taking the light in that room into consideration, you will probably get the color that you weren’t going for.
Color is not the only property of your pain. There is also the matter of texture and gloss. The texture can be improved and made more interesting by plastering as there are many techniques that make your wall interesting. As for the gloss, that is something that is the property of the paint itself. Glossier paints are easier for maintenance as they hide all the imperfections and in some cases, you can wash the walls with that paint on. On the other hand, the paint that is entirely without the gloss will make all the imperfections visible. Make sure you know about that property of the paint before you use it.
